Integrating Nature and Architecture: The South Stone With Olive Leaf

Award-Winning Residential Design by Chih-Lung Lin and Nan-Kai Su

The South Stone With Olive Leaf is a residential house that redefines traditional living spaces. The designers arranged the living room, dining room, and kitchen in a line, not only extending the space but also focusing the sight on the green balcony. This design strategy penetrates the vision in traditional space, directing attention towards nature.

The unique feature of this design is the patio set in the center of the building. This primary conceptual idea was to lighten the living space, introducing more natural elements into daily life, such as morning sun and moonlight with a breeze. This nature-friendly design approach ensures every room in the house is filled with natural light and air, making the living space cozier and closer to nature.

The design was realized using materials such as wood, stone, and wallpaper. The geometry lines are symmetric and progressively layered, creating a stable domain. The conversion of light and shade penetrates the space, creating dynamic and static states. The low degree design guides the living nature, making it natural and easy.

The project was started in June 2018 in Kaohsiung and finished in October 2018 in the same location. The team members included Leo Lin and Eric SU, who contributed to the successful realization of this design.

The South Stone With Olive Leaf was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This prestigious accolade is awarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
